Rust Armour®is a metallic-based, moisture-cure polyurethane, encapsulating coating that will coat over and seal virtually any surface against corrosion, weathering, and physical wear.

Rust Armour® is also a “three-coats-in-one system” that acts as a primer, intermediate, and topcoat.

In normal use, Rust Armour® will apply over a minimally prepared surface and immediately find and fill the pores of the surface.  Within an hour of application, it will begin to cure.  During this cure cycle, Rust Armour® will pull moisture from the air and begin to microscopically swell within the individual pores as it hardens.  This process anchors the coating and seals against any possibility of air, moisture, or any minerals attacking the surface and causing any further corrosion or penetration of any kind.  Rust Armour® stands up to abrasion, direct impact, acids, salts and caustic materials with no loss of strength.

    PROPERTIES

    ·  Single Component – no mixing part A & B

    ·  Fast Cure – humidity accelerates curing

    ·  Surface Tolerant – minimal surface preparation, No sandblasting

    ·  Self-Priming – “three coats in one” system

    ·  Strength – non leafing aluminum metallics

    ·  Easy to Apply – brush, spray or roll

    ·  Extended Pot Life – one month

    ·  Shelf Life – 3 years if unopened

    APPLICATIONS

Rust Armour®can be widely applied to most corrosive environments, including bridges, metal storage tanks, large concrete tanks, offshore oil platforms, steel structures, metal roofs, etc. It offers rapid and effective corrosion protection while reducing labor costs, making it the preferred solution for anti-corrosion applications.

    MAIN PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

    ·Color: silver gray

·Recommended Dry Film Thickness (DFT): 150μm

    ·Theoretical Coverage: 26m²/GAL @ 150μm DFT

    ·Specific Gravity: ~1.1g/cm³

    APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

·Shake or stir thoroughly before use.

    ·Do not thin without permission.

·Can be applied by spraying, brushing, or rolling.

·The thickness per application should not exceed 100μm wet film thickness (WFT).

·When spraying, maintain a distance of about 30cm between the spray gun and the coating, and spray evenly.

·Tool Cleaning: Use special cleaning agent.

·During and after application, prevent flying dust and other debris from contaminating the wet paint surface, and ensure good ventilation.

·Measure the dry film thickness (DFT) with a coating thickness gauge, generally at 3 points, take the average, and touch up areas with insufficient thickness.

    Rust Armour® vs. Surface Coatings

The difference between surface coatings and Rust Armour® is:

A surface coating does not have the solvent carrier to allow penetration into the pores of a substrate and to carry the body of the coating with it.  A surface coating will simply adhere to anything above the pore area and attach to the profile or roughness on the surface.  This works well in most areas until the surface of the coating is exposed to weathering and elements over time.  This exposure increases the permeability of a surface coating and allows moisture (in the form of vapor or humidity), salts, and acids to penetrate into the pores of the substrate.  As a result, corrosion forms and migrates under the coating itself.

In addition, the corrosion process creates off-gassing that causes pressure that may be as high as 1200 psi.  Surface coatings, when totally cured, have only a surface tensile strength of 600-800 psi. Therefore, as pressure increases from the off-gassing, the surface coating will separate and lift from the surface exposing an already rusted surface underneath.

Rust Armour® is made with special solvent carriers that allow the coating to penetrate into the pores carrying the body of the coating with it.  Once the body of the coating is in the pores, it begins to absorb the moisture from the atmosphere and gases itself or does a microscopic swell inside the pores.  This action allows Rust Armour® to become part of the actual surface of the substrate, which is different than most all other industrial coatings.  The polymer literally begins to swell, developing an interlocking network between the pores of the substrate and the coating.

When cured,Rust Armour® maintains an extremely low permeability which eliminates the penetration of moisture, salts, and acids and the opportunity for corrosion to develop.  Rust Armour®  is an aromatic urethane with a high molecular weight and is extremely tough and resistant to acids.  Its non-leafing metallics allow an encapsulation of the surface and add additional toughness and UV control to its surface. Because Rust Armour®  hardens to a minimum surface tensile strength of 6780 psi, any pressure that may develop from any off-gassing from remaining rust on the surface is not sufficiently strong to cause Rust Armour® to separate from the surface of the substrate.

Rust Armour®  requires minimal surface preparation and NO WHITE METAL SANDBLASTING, although any pack rust or scale (which will hold moisture) should be removed by a hammer or hand-tool.  Rust Armour® literally anchors itself into the surface of the existing rust, metal or concrete.  The surface must be free of all grease, oils, and salts and must be completely dry before coating.  Any remaining tight rust or flash-rust will not cause a problem and, in most cases, is beneficial in creating a tough, durable coating.

    DISCLAIMER

    · The above information is compiled based on the actual tests and usage experience of our company's technical personnel and can be used as a construction guide. However, due to differences in the painting environment and supporting schemes, it is recommended that users conduct preliminary tests and trials according to their actual needs and purposes before confirming the use. Our company guarantees the quality and stability of the product itself. When our technical personnel are not present at the painting site, our responsibility is limited to the quality of the coating alone.

    · The protective effect of any coating highly depends on the painting construction. Construction factors such as surface treatment and film thickness will directly affect the service life of the coating. When using this product, users should meet the agreed construction conditions.
